Tree-planting campaign with the children from sunday schools at Yunatzite and Debrashtitza villages – 23.11.2008
During one of the classes in the Sunday Schools, a relevant topic was discussed – that man should treat well all living things, including trees, bushes, grass and all other plants. We thought that planting a tree is the best opportunity for a child to learn to treat well and delicately all living forms, even the flora; to take care of a tree (water it periodically, for example), to love it, to feel it as something that he/she has given life to. We thought that it was a great idea and so on the 23rd of November, 2008, despite the cold and snowy forecast, we did not hesitate for a moment to go out and accomplish our goal. We assume it was our great positivity and the children’s laughter on the chosen day that brought the warm and sunny weather to us.
After having equipped the children with warm quilted rubber boots and having made all necessary preparations, we headed for Debrashtitza village in high spirits. There we made our first stop at "St. Dimitar" Chapel, lit candles and said a prayer. After having breakfast, we went to a beautiful green field just behind the church, as we have planned beforehand. Each child was given the opportunity to plant his/her tree there, on a spot of their choosing, and give it a name. This assignment, of course, was carried out with attention and care and the names varied from names of relatives and friends to names of cartoon characters. Names as "love" and "happiness", and other virtues were also picked.
After having planted all trees and having said the Lord’s Prayer together for the wellness of our trees, we descended to the guest lobby of "St. Sunday – The Martyr" in Debrashtitza village, where we enjoyed our delicious hot lunch.
